Mainz (12.10.2007)


A quick day trip to the town of Mainz, southwest of Frankfurt on the Rhine. Pictured above is the Cathedral of Mainz. Construction began in 975 AD (without a "1" in front). St. Boniface passed through these parts in the 8th century (below) (artist's representation).

Amazing building. Perhaps I am a bit irreverent though, but with the angle of the pic and the artist's rendering (and my wacked imagination) it looks just as if St. Boniface is about to put the smack down on someone (or more true to the pic-- put a cap in somebody-- look at him)
